Learn what SEO can do for your business and  how it works

Various companies get offers of SEO services promising to make their business popular online and get them a lot of customers. This promise of gaining customers entices many companies and many are quick to sign themselves up without really knowing what they’ve gotten into. Some companies though shy away from this idea as this is something that is alien to them and something they don’t understand.

In this article, SEO will be explained in the simplest way possible.

So what really is SEO? What’s the connection of the Internet with getting customers and what does SEO have to do with all of these? Here’s SEO in simple terms explaining how businesses can benefit from it and how it works.

What can you get out of SEO?

When your website appears in the free results for search terms that are relevant to your business, your site is exposed into potential customers who can turn into loyal clients.

The end goal for SEO is to get your business more traffic — and potential more customers or clients from the pool of “netizens” surfing the Internet.

Glob with magnifying glassIn this digital age of the Internet and Google, majority of the people turn to their computers and mobile phones to look for the next restaurant that can offer them a sumptuous dish or a reliable professional cleaner that can take care of their messy house. All they would need to do is pull up a search engine using their laptops, tablets or phones, type a few words on the search field like “best Japanese restaurant in New York” or “affordable but effective carpet cleaning in Sydney” and look through the list of websites Google displays on its results page. It’s information gathering at its easiest and most convenient form. And for businesses, it’s marketing at its finest.

If your business’ website comes up on the first page of Google’s results page, Viola! You’ll be the Japanese restaurant they visit for dinner and the professional cleaning company they’ll call to clean their house.

There are a lot of businesses in the market and a lot of them already have websites put up. So how do you compete with these businesses to land a spot on the first page? The answer is Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Without SEO your website is just invisible to potential clients. With SEO, you’ll have your business’ website rank among the best optimized sites, get more visits to your page, and convert curious Internet surfers to first-time and eventually valuable clients.

What needs to be done?

Google has a strict set of guidelines they follow to determine who gets a top spot on their Google rankings. Some of these are a bit too technical and you would need a good SEO expert to explain all these to you. But to sum it up, your company needs to have (1) a fast and reliable website that provides unique and relevant content to the public, and (2) a website that has been optimized for Google to easily index or read your website.

How does SEO work?

SEO involves two processes. One is onsite SEO which involves optimizing your website. This means enhancing or tweaking the site to become more readable for search engines. The easier it is for search engines to read your website, the better the chances of your page to be regarded by Google as a relevant website worthy to be suggested to the Internet user.

The second one is offsite SEO which entails promoting your website online. The more people who know about your company, the more exposure you’ll have and the bigger chances of getting referrals. These referrals will bring site visits and eventually generate traffic to your site.

The SEO professional and web design company will work to achieve all these. With the help of SEO your company’s website will be completely armed and be ready to compete with other businesses. Your website and your company will no longer be invisible to Internet users. And gaining visibility online will help you get more customers and help you expand your business.

Building a good website and optimising it to rank well on Google will take time, but the time and effort you put into it are truly worth it. Some companies may not realize it but SEO is one of the best investments they can get into to help their business grow.
