Hilarious SEO Myths

This article looks at a number of funny and downright ridiculous myths about search engine optimization.

The Catch

As well as being hilarious and stupid, you will hear some of these being used by some SEO companies and “professionals.” Look out for them; it will help you to separate the cowboys from the real industry experts.

Doing SEO Once

Of course, the world of the internet stands still, doesn’t it. So as soon as you have optimised a website, that is it, you don’t need to do anything else. The site that you knocked from page one of Google is just going to sit there and accept the fact that they are now going to get 90% less hits, obviously.

This is a SEO myth that has thankfully been exploded in recent years, although there are still companies out there who will market themselves as being so good that you only need do it once.

Doing It On The Cheap

If you are serious about SEO, then you need to expect to pay a lot of money to get it done correctly. At the same time, paying the money for great SEO massively increases the likelihood of you seeing a greater return on your investment.

The myth about being able to get quality SEO cheaply also extends to those misguided souls who still believe that putting up pages with 10% keyword density is the only way to be a success.

SEO costs money and is worth it when done correctly.

Only Google Exists

While Google is the leader in search, it is not the only search engine in the world. A good SEO company will know where your target market is most likely to come from. If this is Google, then great, however be suspicious of any SEO that is focused solely on Google. If most of your existing traffic, or your market research has shown that people searching for your product or service use Bing or Yahoo, then an SEO needs to be able to adapt.

Google are good, but they are one option in a huge market.

SEO Doesn’t Matter

Many people will talk about SEO and dismiss it, saying they have been successful without using it.

Unless you are a world famous person or brand, then you need to use SEO to make your business great. SEO doesn’t matter if you want to keep your business ticking over on a shoestring and struggle by for the rest of your life.

We trust that you have a bit more ambition than that though, so ensure you ignore anyone who tells you SEO is overrated.

SEO is an ongoing process and meaningful content makes a major difference. Many self-proclaimed experts focused solely on keywords rather than offering actual value to readers. This gives a website staying power with real people and search engines. Some of the myths definitely lead a lot of sites to the awful road of being downgraded on the major search engines.
